Soy milk has so much protein! Old school boxed Eden Soy contains nothing but soybeans and water and has 12 grams of protein per cup 💕

I have no problem with soy milk, as such. I prefer not to use soy milk because I eat a lot of soy in other forms and I like to vary my food sources. I prefer oat milk because it is easy and cheap to make, is the most neutral of flavors and not gritty like every nut milk I have ever made (or consumed as a commercial product) aside from cashew. Which is expensive and not really something I like to use as a staple.

It is unfortunate the ways that internet fads contribute to moral smugness, as well unsustainable food fads that wreak havoc in so many ways, and how internet "influencing" occludes or misdirects the ways that capitalist commercial production and packaging alters the original food source and its nutritional profile. And that includes soy milk.

Totally! I do think hemp happens to be the easiest to milk, since it requires no soaking or straining at all—I blend the seeds right into whatever I'm making (tea latte, smoothie with water as the liquid) for creamy frothy yum

Fair, fair :). My fave non-dairy ice cream is the So Delicious Cashew Caramel Cluster. Insane! (Apologies in advance if you're allergic to nuts...)

I’m not but no apology necessary anyway. Not heavily into caramel but have enjoyed many So Delicious products and am particularly fond of their chocolate yogurt!

I am guilty oat milk lover! Esp Oatley 🙈. I had a flat white oat milk latte this morning. HOWEVER I used to have this daily and it was NOT good for my body. Now I am a fresh Mac Nut milk lover. It’s so easy to make and soooooo delicious. And having fats instead of sugar is a game changer. I feel fuller, more regulated, and I don’t crash! I want to try hemp milk!

I’ve happily quit oat milk and any store bought milk alternative because of the added oil. We’ve been making hemp milk, almond milk, pecan milk and cashew milk at home. It’s been fun and delicious. Also decided to try cows milk in the milk steamer after 10-15 years of not having it. Great article.

I too have gleefully watched oat milk’s nutritional assassination. I’ve bought a lot of different commercially made alternative milks (macadamia, cashew, walnut, almond, coconut, blends of these…) but they all suck for putting in coffee/tea. I’ve been working on slowly reintroducing dairy (after avoiding it for over a decade!) and can now enjoy half and half in my morning beverage.

Love dairy! So glad you get to dabble now. I do a blended tea latte with the hemp seeds plus other goodies like collagen etc so get a lot of nice froth, but it does require the extra step of a blender

That is legit the killer for me 😅 washing the blender every morning is apparently too much for me?? But I do miss collagen coffees — that sounds so delish!!

Used to wear a glucose monitor and oat milk spiked my blood sugar through the roof, higher than ice cream.

Totally! See the last paragraph—I do hemp milk, which I think is easiest of all. No soaking or straining required.
